Professor Christian Hamilton-Craig

Professor Christian Hamilton-Craig is the Director of Noosa Hearts Cardiology Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

He has current academic appointments as Professor, Faculty of Medicine University of Queensland and Centre for Advanced Imaging, and Professor of Medicine, Griffith University Sunshine Coast.

His special interests include Advanced Precision Risk Assessment, Coronary Calcium Scoring, Lipids and Cholesterol Disorders (member of the Australian Atherosclerosis Society), CT Coronary Angiography, Cardiac MRI, Atrial Fibrillation, General Cardiology and Heart Failure. He is an expert in Cardiac Imaging with a worldwide reputation, and practices from Noosa Hospital and Eden Hospital on the Sunshine Coast.

About

Christian Hamilton-Craig graduated in medicine from the University of Adelaide, and completed his Honours thesis at Trinity College, Cambridge UK on the topic of cardiac risk assessment. After training in Internal Medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, he completed advanced cardiology training at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, and was awarded a PhD in Cardiology from the University of Queensland.

He was the inaugural Queensland International Fellowship Scholar in 2009, working at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome Italy.  In 2009-10 he was the inaugural Washington-Queensland Transpacific Fellow at the University of Washington, Seattle USA.  During his time at the University of Washington, he was trained in Adult Congenital Heart Disease, working with Dr Karen Stout (ACHD chief author of ACC guidelines), and Prof Catherine Otto (pre-eminent authority in echocardiography and Editor-in-Chief of HEART). He also spent time at the prestigious Cardiac CT unit at Erlangen Hospital, Germany under Prof Stefan Achenbach (current President of the European Society of Cardiology).

He holds major advocacy and peak body positions across Australia & New Zealand, currently:

 

  • Cardiac Society of Australia & NZ chair on the Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring working group, and member of Clinical and Preventative Cardiology Council

  • Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography Committee co-chair for Australia-New Zealand International Regional Committee

  • Conjoint Committee for Certification in Cardiac MRI inaugural chair for RANZCR/CSANZ/ANZCMR certification peak body

  • Past-President of the Australia New Zealand Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (ANZCMR, a working group of the SCMR)

  • Australian Atherosclerosis Society Queensland State Representative

  • Foundation Chair of Cardiac Imaging Australasia a not-for-profit dedicated international symposium for education in cardiac imaging  www.cardiacimaging.org.au

He has published >100 scientific papers, performed over 200 invited talks as an Invited Speaker on cardiac imaging and clinical cardiology, presented >500 scientific abstract presentations, and has published in 4 textbooks. He is a respected authority in the field of cardiac imaging.
